Why Breakfast & 5 Simple Recipe Ideas (Plantbased)

For us breakfast is the most important meal of the day. A lot of people say they don’t have time to eat a good breakfast but that’s BS; wake up 10 minutes earlier, be prepared (eg. have the ingredients in your fridge) and plan! For us the benefits of eating something nutritious first things means we have more energy so therefore feel more productive, are able to focus and generally feel really good!

One thing we have learn’t over the past year is that preparation and planning is key to a good food lifestyle. If you wake up and have nothing in your fridge you’ll end up grabbing anything; which will most likely be full of sugar, high in refined carbs and make you feel like shit for the rest of the day.

Our tips:

  1. Plan your weekly meals and have the ingredients available.
  2. If you have an early start make your breakfast the night before
  3. Buy tupperware containers to keep your food fresh/ so you can take it with you to work
  4. Be inspired! Social media is a great way to get food inspo.

To get you inspired and show you how easy it can be here are 5 of my favourite breakfast’s (one for each working day). All are plantbased, take no more than 5 minutes to make, are so nutritious, filling and delicious.

  1. Frozen Berry Bowl


Ingredients & directions: Add frozen blueberries & raspberries to a blender with some almond milk and blend until smooth. Pour into a serving bowl and decorate with white sliced nectarines and sunflower seeds!

2. Toast with Berries & Nut Butter


Ingredients & directions: A piece of toast (gluten-free if you have intolerances) with some almond and/or peanut butter spread over it. Place some some fruit on top (I used nectarines, blueberries and blackberries), sprinkle over some pumpkin and sunflower seeds and then drizzle over some peanut butter….This is literally DELICIOUS!

3. Porridge with Berries and Squirrel Sisters Coconut Cashew Bar


Ingredients & directions: Prepare some gluten-free oats (I cooked mine in almond milk). Once ready pour into a bowl and drizzle in some honey or maple syrup (for those that have a sweet tooth). Mix well. Sprinkle over some of our Squirrel Sisters Coconut Cashew bar along with some blackberries and pumpkin & sunflower seeds.

4. Berry Bowl


This pic was a serving for 4 or more people!

Ingredients & directions: A bowl of berries (including blueberries, strawberries, blackberries & raspberries). For protein add some nuts (walnuts are a good choice) and some nut butter & seeds.

5. Fruit and Nut Bowl


Ingredients & directions: Chop and apple into small pieces and place in the bottom of the bowl. Add some berries (I used raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and blackberries). drizzle on some almond butter and sprinkle over some sunflower seeds, chia seeds and Baobab powder for an extra vitamin C hit.

Serve with a hot cacao- warm almond milk with 1x heaped tsp of cacao powder.
